Waste is an important and challenging issue in today’s society. PVC is one of the many materials in the waste stream, representing roughly 0.7% of the total.
Addressing the key issues around waste and resource management, the European plastics industry has introduced an ‘Integrated Approach’ strategy, which aims at maximising the efficient usage of raw materials, balancing concern for the environment with the advantages of industrial society.
Four different options have been defined in the Integrated Approach:
Prevention of waste and resource saving by minimising the weight and volume of waste at production stage,
Recycling,
Energy recovery and
Landfill.
