Compactor Project at Mumbai Central
One of its key objectives of ICPE is to work together with civic authorities and other Govt. Departments in facilitating collection and recycling of plastic waste through technological inputs.
A step taken by ICPE to fulfil the above objective was to set up a compacting machine for PET bottles at Western Railways.
Segregation Projects
Indian Centre for Plastics in Environment (ICPE), a representative body of the plastic industry, initiated a pilot project on segregation of domestic waste, collection and separation of solid waste that is later to be disposed off safely by the BMC.
Solid Waste Management at Matheran
Matheran,a small hill station(7.25 sq kms area)has been declared eco-sensitive by the Supreme Court.The main problem of Matheran is the disposal of solid wastes,which are thrown in the forests.ICPE is working in association with Matheran Bachao Samiti,MCGM and local NGOs like Bombay Environmental Action Group to chalk out a master plan for the proper waste management at Matheran.
